Pants

Outfit Info
Shirt - J Crew, Pants - Gap, Heels that are sinking into the ground - J Crew
Bracelets - J Crew and J Crew Outlet, Earrings - Target

It's so infrequent that I wear pants that one of my coworkers totally called me out on it today.  And while she said I looked great in pants, my response was "Yeah but if I gain/lose a few pounds, pants = not so forgiving".  Which is one of the many reasons I prefer skirts and dresses.  Gain a few pounds, pull that formally hip hugger skirt up into a high-waisted number.  Gain a few pounds in pants and there's just nowhere to go.

And thus concludes Part 1 in my 234 part series of why skirts and dresses are far superior to pants. Stay tuned for the thrilling follow ups.

Simple kick

Outfit Info
Sweater - Gap, Skirt - Madewell, Shoes - Michael Kors, Necklace - Anthropologie

As the weather gets warmer here in Texas, I tend to gravitate toward simpler outfits.  While I was trying to figure out last night what on earth I was going to wear today, I went to Sydney of Basic Cravings for inspiration.  She excels at keeping things simple but always looking perfectly stylist and put together.  So that's what I went for today.

I couldn't resist putting on that huge Anthropologie necklace, though, because it doesn't make it out of my closet enough even though it goes with a ton of things.

The other thing I love about this outfit is that I used that Gap sweater.  That baby has been around for years.  (And it still fits - yay!)  It doesn't seem like something I would hold onto for so long but the color is fun and it's such a good weight that I've never purged it.  Which I'm very happy for today since it found a new friend in my Madewell skirt.  Bringing the old and the new together on a Monday morning.  So sweet.

Flamingo shadows

Outfit info
Sweater and blouse - Old Navy, Skirt - Anthropologie, Heels - Michael Kors
Necklace - J Crew Outlet

Doesn't that sound like the name of the latest hipster band?  I should probably copyright/trademark/something that real quick before it's appropriated.

In case you're wondering, no, I'm not wearing white tights; those are just my bare, sexy, pasty legs.  That lack of light is really not doing those babies any favors.  I'm not a bigger tanner person (is that the right term?  Is it better to say Snooki is not my idol?), but maybe I need to get a little color.  Or at least never let Christian take photos in that kind of light with my legs bare again.

I should probably say something about that adorable skirt I'm wearing I'm still cracking myself up with the hipster band name and trying to research the best fake tanner so I'll take my leave now.

Reliable

Outfit Info
Sweater - Jason Wu for Target, Dress - Anthropologie, Heels - Michael Kors, Belt - Old Navy

Christian got me this dress last year for Christmas and I've about worn it out.  Not quite, but you can see that it's definitely not brand sparkling new anymore.

It's just so comfortable and cheery.

Plus, all I have to do it throw it on, put on a pair of heels and grab a cardigan in case it's cool at the office and I'm ready to go.

It also works well for non-work things like baby showers, dinner, lounging in bed with the cats.

I always get compliments.  I always feel put together.

I probably should've bought more than one...

Elbow patches

Outfit info
Blazer - H&M, Shirt - Anthropologie, Skirt - Thrifted from hunt.gather.style, Boots - Aldo
Necklaces - J Crew, Bracelets - J Crew, Watch - Michael Kors

One of my favorite parts of this blazer is the elbow patches.  Don't see them?  Yeah, that's because I forgot to have Christian take pictures of them.  Clearly, I'm ready for Friday and the weekend.  Please trust me that there are some cute elbow patches on that jacket that are almost the same color as the skirt.  The giraffe will back me up on this.

Wu girl

Outfit Info
Cardigan - Old Navy, Blouse - Jason Wu for Target, Skirt - J Crew (similar here on sale!),
Heels - Michael Kors, Watch - Target, Bracelet - Tiffany

Yes, it's true, I have some Jason Wu.

I'm a poet and I didn't even know it!

Turns out, the West Texas town that my mom lives in and I was visiting this weekend didn't even get Jason Wu at their Target (which I finally discovered Saturday night at 9:00PM).  So Christian was all on his own to buy clothes for me and he did an admirable job.  He fought off the crazed women who practically attacked him for buying multiple things and multiple sizes since he didn't know what would fit me and even a Target manager who rifled through his bags to see what he was buying (for the record, ladies at the Arboretum Target on Sunday morning and Target manager, WE RETURNED EVERYTHING THAT DIDN'T WORK AND AREN'T SELLING ANYTHING ON EBAY).

And he got me super cute stuff that I'm excited to wear, starting with this polka dotted blouse.  Navy plus dots?  Perfect for me.

Variation on a theme (polka dots)

Outfit Info
Skirt - Madewell, Blazer - Banana Republic (similar here on sale), Shirt - J Crew
Heels - Michael Kors, Necklace - J Crew Outlet, Bracelet - J Crew, Watch - Michael Kors

I saw this skirt when Christian and I were out doing last minute Christmas shopping.  Like the pain in the butt charming girl that I am, I instantly tweeted a picture of it saying I wanted it for Christmas.  Poor Christian ran right over to Madewell but he wasn't sure what size to get.  So it wasn't under the tree Christmas day.  But, we went the day after and it was still there so I snatched it up.  That story probably isn't too exciting to other people, right?  Oh well.

Given that it's been nowhere near winter temps here in Austin I busted it out today for the first time.  Wearing something new always gives me a little boost and that boost is even bigger than normal given how darn cute this skirt is.  The polka dots are just cheer inducing.

Texas girl

Outfit Info
Dress - Anthropologie, Boots - Aldo, Belt - Target
Watch - Michael Kors, Bracelet - J Crew

Whenever I wear this outfit, one of my co-workers tells me I'm looking very Texan.

We took these photos across the street from one of our favorite restaurants: Contigo Austin.  Since I was all Texan-ed up, we probably should have gone two stepping or something afterwards, but instead we went across the street for Manhattans, tempura fried green beans, fried pork skin, and delicious white bean dip.

I just love this little park.  It's such a cool backdrop.  I think we'll need to go there for photos more often.  Especially given its proximity to the Manhattans and the green beans.
